Project
E-commerce Website Design and Development
with Content Management System
Requirements
To re-design the company’s current online shoe store. The design must be professional, aesthetically pleasing and "clutter-free". The website itself needed to showcase and sell the products. The client wanted to easily upload and manage the products herself so it had to be functional and simple to use.
Solutions
Palema’s Director, Lema Noel, made it very clear from the start that she was very unhappy with the result of her recent website make-over. It simply lacked that “Wow!” factor and professionalism. She wanted a site that matched the quality of other popular brand names out there. Unfortunately there is no picture of the old site, but it really didn’t give the impression that it was selling classy, European leather shoes.
The landing page needed a photo that portrayed a bit more class than the one originally selected. Seeing as the client wanted a very simplified and clutter-free design, the image needed to immediately grab the visitor and inform them that this was a shoe-store. Most of the professional images that the client owned focused on the model, not the products. There was one that really stood out where the model and product were portrayed nicely so this was chosen for one of the mock designs. Another photo with both model and product was chosen but this time the model was cropped out of the photo so that the focus was on her legs and the shoes she was wearing. On both images, the model and background were converted to black and white whilst the shoes remained in colour, just to emphasise the product even more.
The client approved the cropped version design so this look and feel was incorporated into a Content Management System with a shopping cart . The flash header was also very simple and included the company’s slogan.
